Hi, I'm Emily and I'm so glad you're here. I've shared a bit about my practice below and please feel free to reach out for a complementary phone conversation anytime.
My path to psychotherapy has been a truly fascinating and intersecting journey through creative arts, mindfulness traditions, and evidence-based methodology. After establishing and operating an authentically holistic private practice in Chicago for the last ten years, I'm so happy to be in Ann Arbor, a place that speaks to me with its abundance of trees, welcoming energy, and grassroots spirit. My practice is a way for me to share my love of the living world through my experience as a clinical social worker, yoga and meditation instructor, and writer. I approach this work with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm; everything I offer is rooted in a passion for creative expression, reciprocal connection, and imaginative ways of being alive.
I do my very best to ground the therapeutic process in my ever-deepening studies of somatics and ecological spirituality, realms of practice and inquiry steeped in recognition of our interdependence and the wisdom held in our bodies. My therapeutic style reflects our shared need for joy, humor, and deep rest, as well as our fierce human requirements of finding meaning in our lives and a sense of belonging with each other.
With formal training in modalities including ACT, DBT, and MBSR, I infuse my approach with a lifelong love of literature, poetry, film, music, and movement. So much of what we tend to struggle with in our modern, overstimulated lives calls for intentional (seemingly counterintuitive) actions, like slowing down to breathe when we feel urgency or setting down an exhausting obligation to bask in the ease of delight long enough to be fortified for whatever comes next. Diversifying the placement of our attention opens us to new depths of insight and inspiration. When you partner with me in a therapeutic relationship, your imagination, curiosity, beliefs, fears, and hopes are centered from the start. The only way forward is through but, when we go together, the journey is much less daunting and filled with much more possibility.
Before pursuing a Master of Social Work Degree at DePaul University in Chicago, I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fiction Writing at Columbia College. I also studied with MAPS in 2022, earning certification in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and I have various certifications in yoga traditions including vinyasa and ashtanga, yoga nidra, prenatal yoga, and trauma-informed yoga. In addition to more straightforward “talk therapy” style sessions, I've spent years working with clients in one-on-one and group formats offering guided meditation, gentle asana, yoga nidra, and prompted writing rituals. As your time with me unfolds, I'll often suggest complementary practices to support our in-session conversations, and you should always feel welcome to bring your own ideas. There are so many ways to excavate, heal, and integrate. I will always encourage you to explore what calls to you and I'll be there along the way to support and collaborate.
It’s brave, and often a little scary, to begin (or restart) therapy. All you need as you enter into your work with me is the willingness to show up, even when you aren’t sure how to use the time. To paraphrase Emily Dickinson, it's enough to simply allow your soul to stand a little bit ajar.
