MINDFUL MOMENTS

More Resources for Pandemic Related Stressors

Though many of us have settled into a type of "new normal," the pandemic continues to challenge us in different ways everyday.
Circumstances continue to change, and navigating this time in our lives has become more difficult than we could have imagined.

The collaborators at Grove have compiled a new list of resources to offer support during this time. We hope they can help you find some peace and guidance.

The Child Mind Institute has some useful information for parents, teachers and caregivers in this article about helping kids manage fears. It includes tips for self-regulation, and explains the importance of empowering children to calm themselves down.

This article from the New York Times acknowledges that, yes, there are real risks of students falling behind academically with online learning, and those risks are exacerbated for low-income families. It also offers some practical ways to incorporate learning throughout your days at home and gives an important reminder that a child's ability to learn follows from feeling safe, loved, and regulated.

The Happiness Lab Podcast  by Dr. Laurie Santos discusses
optimism as an important part of mental health. This podcast offers strategies to cope with heightened emotions during the pandemic with practical, science based ways to gain more happiness.

Disordered eating has been on the rise during COVID-19. This informative podcast episode features a conversation between Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a Licensed Psychologist, and  Dr. Gayle Brooks, Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for The Renfrew Center. The conversation illuminates some of the reasons that disordered eating is spiking during the pandemic and names some coping techniques. COVID-19 Eating Support is offering virtual meal support during this time, and here is a helpful article about eating, weight gain, and managing feelings of guilt and shame.

Processing the Pandemic with the Ted Radio Hour features a variety of speakers who cover different coping mechanisms for the many challenges COVID-19 presents to us. It discusses the impact on healthcare providers, the use of writing as a coping skill, the impact on and prioritization of children and teen mental health, and the difference between grief, sadness, and depression.

We also have a number of local groups offering support to our community in multiple capacities:

Thrive Counseling and Garrett's Space have create a virtual support group for young adults, ages 18-28. The group meets weekly and its focus is to encourage connection and healthy coping in uncertain times.

Arbor Psychology is offing a virtual support group for parents of elementary age children to help build skills and strategies to support online learning this school year.

Amplify Colectivo has a number of Therapeutic Support Groups. From Bereavement Support, LGBTQI+ specific concerns, and Mental Health for Activists, this organization offers resources and opportunities for connection for various communities facing a range of concerns.

It is now more important than ever that we treat ourselves and each other with grace and care. Please view our updates below and reach out if you're in need of support.
