Carolyn is a therapist who works with adults ages 18+, with special interest in working with young adults and adults ages 18-35. Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, relational, and collaborative, drawing from a variety of treatment modalities depending on each client’s unique experiences and goals. Carolyn believes that every individual holds the capacity to heal, and the inner wisdom on how to do so. She aims to co-create a compassionate, strength-based therapeutic environment where individuals feel safe to explore their areas of concern with curiosity and self-compassion, reconnect to their inner wisdom, and work towards healing and connection.

Carolyn specializes in trauma, anxiety, stress, grief/loss, life transitions, and adjustment-related concerns. She integrates somatically-oriented frameworks into her therapeutic work, drawing from an understanding of attachment relationships, neuroscience, and the importance of the mind/body in mental and emotional wellbeing. Carolyn has completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level 1), and integrates a variety of treatment approaches including Internal Family Systems or “parts” work, Trauma-Informed Stabilization, CBT, DBT, Polyvagal Theory, and Mindful Self-Compassion.

Carolyn’s practice is rooted in principles of social justice, respect, and recognition of the impact of oppressive systems and policies on individual and collective health and wellbeing. She is committed to providing a supportive, affirming space for clients of all identities, expressions, and abilities. She also believes in the importance of her own ongoing learning and development in areas of anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice to maintain the supportive space she provides.

Carolyn earned her MSW in 2018 from the University of Michigan School of Social Work, and has since worked in a variety of settings, including at nonprofit organizations serving the local immigrant and refugee community and in affirming and accessible healthcare for teens and young adults. In addition to her work at Grove, she is also currently a staff social worker at the University of Michigan Counseling & Psychological Services, with a focus in college student mental health.

Carolyn was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has called Ann Arbor home since 2017, and enjoys spending time in nature, a good cup of coffee, practicing yoga, getting lost in a book, and spending time with friends and family.
