Teague Simoncic (she/her) is a compassionate, intentional therapist working with emerging and established adults. She values the therapeutic process as a space for exploration and growth, as well as an opportunity to teach and practice skills that can be used outside the therapy hour. Teague often supports folks experiencing life transitions such as beginning college, entering the workforce, navigating the beginning or end of relationships, and getting curious about their identity, as well as those who are noticing patterns of behavior that may no longer be helpful for them. For Teague, destigmatizing mental healthcare is a critical part of her work - at various points in our lives, we could all benefit from a compassionate examination of what is working for us and what could use a new approach.

Teague holds a certification in Perinatal Mental Health and has completed advanced training in this area. She has a special interest in working with those who are considering the path of parenthood, are currently expecting a child (via pregnancy, surrogacy, adoption, or other means), have experienced fertility challenges, and/or are experiencing difficulty adjusting to parenthood. When working with Teague, folks may pursue a short-term course of treatment (such as creating a thoughtful plan for managing potential postpartum mood disorder over the course of a few sessions) or something more long-term (processing birth trauma, integrating the identity of “parent,” and navigating relationship stressors are common areas of focus). Teague has an inclusive view of gender, sexuality, and family, and welcomes folks of all identities into her practice. Babies in arms are welcome during therapy sessions.

Teague’s approach to therapeutic care involves the collaborative identification of goals that are important to a client, evidence-based therapeutic practices tailored to those goals, and a pace that is safe and sustainable while also moving in the direction of enhanced emotional wellbeing. Techniques that may be utilized include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems/Parts Work, Problem-Solving Therapy, and foundational self-care practices. Teague is skilled at collaborating with primary care providers and psychiatrists, and is happy to work with clients as they make changes in their medication regimen. Regardless of what care looks like, Teague believes that each person she sees for therapy is the expert in their own lives. Social justice values deeply impact her work not only as a therapist, but as a human being.

Teague earned her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Michigan and also has a certificate in Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She has professional experience in the juvenile justice and legal systems, academia/research, career coaching, and primary care, and values the experiences she gained in each of these unique settings. She lectures at the University of Michigan School of Social Work and provides training and consultation to local healthcare providers who are hoping to enhance their patient engagement skills. She is committed to ongoing learning and growth in regards to her clinical skills as well as from a social justice and advocacy perspective. Teague is glad to call Ann Arbor home as she provides therapeutic care to her local community.
